This level of respectful, thoughtful communication is what it’s taken me and Mr E to not only not get divorced but also to feel connected and like we’re partners, 30 years in. When things get hard, it always, always, always comes back to communication.

As some currently in a marriage in which my depressed partner has *completely* checked out mentally, I would LOVE to have a weekly check-in and discuss how we had interacted that week. It doesn’t sound hard; it sounds like intentional, mindful communication. And obviously it’s working well for them.

I would agree with you that Fischer doesn’t owe the public any details if he doesn’t want to give them. But if he’s going to talk about the issue publicly and ask people for their support, providing those details would clearly make people a lot more willing to give that support.

The majority of what is being cancelled amounts to basically the interest. Most people have paid their tuition within a handful of years but end up fighting the debt for decades. This would be a far more valuable economic stimulus than a couple one time checks.

I look at it like this.
