Bingo. Hamilton County. Serious, deeply historically embedded problems with racism.

Add to this:

Except that this doesn’t warrant a suspension. At all. If it were part of a pattern of intimidation, that would be one thing, but that does not appear to be the case. Hang out in a school for one day and see the eleven-bilionty things that happen. One kid staring at another kid? Jeez.

In Cincinnasty/Hamilton County it sure does!

Also an extensive “This American Life” episode on the over-disciplining of black PRESCHOOLERS.

WTH is up with everyone on here like “I wonder what would have happened if person was x and the other was x” JFC this is racism. We all know it. The child was suspended because he’s black. Quit pretending like there’s some other fucking reason.

No way he'd be suspended, in that case.

Emmett Till’s mother asked for those photos to be taken so the world could know what happened to her child. This goes beyond white people being “titillated” by dead black bodies. This is about remembering. This image was on the cover of magazines at a time when the men who did this could literally get away with

Oh the fact that he was suspended is absolutely racially motivated. And it’s sad that anybody still has to ask that question, sadder still that it’s the norm, and that the parents can’t go there for whatever reason.

That’s immediately who came to my mind. And this kid didn’t even “whistle”. This situation would be laughable if it weren't so disgraceful.

It matters because the U.S. has a loooooong history of punishing black men for staring at white women. See the picture of Emmett Till someone posted.

Black person: “I’ve experienced racism before and I know this is racist”

I believe the question you’re looking for is “would he have been suspended?”

Could have been worse. Remember the last black kid disciplined for looking at a white girl?
