I do understand what you're saying, but I'm of the belief (and clearly Colin Chapman was not), that you start at the drawing board with a reasonable baseline of safety in mind...rules or no rules, whether it threatens to impinge on performance or not. To not do so is negligent. On the optimistic side though, and what

Case closed. Thank you.

No, no, I totally get it, which is why I stress the balance (Saftey/complexity/cost/weight). However, IMHO, safety MUST rank high in the engineering objectives of even such a purpose-built car—the primary purpose still being to win, and win consistently. While I admire his hutspah and his mission,Colin's diregard for

I get that, but I'm trying to kill all safety birds with one stone. Racing, at the end of the day, is about people. The drivers, the fans...the principle shouldn't be different.

Not wearing lots of heavy gear might make you a faster and more nimble ball player, but there's a reason why football players wear helmets, soccer players wear shin guards, and almost everybody wears a cup.

Reports say that a lot of these systems dramatically lack feedback (and I concur on the prius—but hell, it's a prius), but I thought it felt okay in the Mini.

I know a few fantastic and truly honest technicians that run a clean and highly-respected shop, but my experience has shown me that they are the exception, not the rule. For instance:

I've always heard the benefits of nitrogen was in sprung weight, which I could never decide if this made sense or not (rotational/cetrifugal weight vs. being "lighter than air" in terms of density???).

NOTE: I should clarify...electric power ASSIST. There are still nuts and bolts connecting the steerign wheen to the drive wheels in all of these systems as far as I know.

To the best of my knowledge (and I know there are many more):

haha, nice! This won't win any dates, but they could also make one for tune-ups.

Excellent choice!

I'm torn between the CVT and electric power steering.

Most do now, and may have for more than 30 years.

Crack Pipe.

I've never been in favor of speed trap tactics. Honestly, if the primary concern was to make sure people don't drive too fast, they'd just make themselves obvious. I'd rather just pay higher local taxes than to deal with a sneaky, mis-aligned revenue machine.

I spent YEARS memorizing what Crown Vic headlights looked like in my rear view mirror at night...Now I have to start from scratch and get used to wider variety of generic domestic car profiles. How much will it cost me in the interim? Bummer.

Holy crap. That's pretty funny...but I am expecting some jalop with a giant "#8" decal on the rear window of his truck to go ape shit in defense.

So, the car doesn't actually run, and it's too big and heavy to wear as jewlery, so what exactly was the point?

You know, when I first saw those pics on the landing page I says, "Holy SHIT! That right there is the coolest of the cool...iminos I've ever seen!" Then I looks at the article pics and realizes that the engine is in a hole in the trunks, and sombodies cuts off the ass of the tiller! Thens I be thinkin', whut a waste
