WTF???

@Pinkerton: Didn't that Model-T belong to a famous explorer? It actually does look familiar...

Various copies of ye olde Jeep Cherokee with the venerable 4.0L served me well though more snowstorms than I can count. If I ever move back to snow country, and gas remains under $5/gal, I'll surely pick up another one.

@mattmacklind: These w113 SLs were available with a 4spd and in some years/locations, even a 5spd. The stock I6 motors had performance potential, particularly with a set of webers. handling though, well, is always relative to the car's era. Probably proportional to a modern SLs handling.

@Ash78: Eh, a resto-in-progress Mercedes w114 250 is my daily driver, and it generally holds up just fine. Same generation and and drivetrain. Like most Mercedes of old, these cars are basically deathproof.

For that price, someone has to be willing to drop some serious cash on kitsch value alone...craaack pipe.

Pressurized fluid? I don't believe you can actually compress fluid like a gas (certainly not hydraulic fluid), thus bringing me to the question, how is it being "pressurized?" There must be pneumatics involved somewhere. All of this is starting to sound excruciatingly expensive, even if it is a step in the right

Beretta = crap, straight out of the factory.

Weak.

So cool, but I think a 21st century driver stands a better chance of learning how to drive a steam locomotive than one of these, with it's vast array of unlabled levers, switches and whooziebobbles.

@03SVT: Dang. Someone always beats me to that one.

The front of the (most recent generation) Toyota MR2 looks great. The back-end looks great. However, I've always thought that the didn't belong on the same car. Likewise for the FJ Cruiser. Must be a Toyota thing.

Absolutely incredible, and I'm sure it's worth every penny in DIY satisfaction.

Very cool car. Nonetheless, a rip-off. Pass the pipe, por favor.

Someone has FINALLY bested the Matchbox car wheelsize:carsize ratio. Kudos, Grecian!

MUV

Here in San Diego, I just saw gas for $1.02!!!

@brandegee: According to one of the Miata performance manuals I've read (used to have an MX-5), Mazda totaled two 944's during track testing in the development of the Miata. Supposedly the RX-7 was initially designed to compete with the 924 in the late 70's.

I've been (very, very slowly) restoring an old Mercedes W114 250 sedan, and have been systematically modernizing much of the running gear, incl. a Weber upgrade, electronic ignition, and soon, an electric fuel pump. With the exception of the dual Webers, I've found most of these upgrades to be relatively cheap,

Why, God, why must this list exist??? I've bene defending the Miata for years as innacurately labeled a "chick car" based on its grasroots racign pedigree and overall blast-to-drive-ness. Now it's name will never be cleared. Thanks, [gaywheels.com] and Jalopnik, thanks for nuthin!
