It’s the opposite. When you move the load from the receiver out to the ball, the vertical force supported by the hitch stays the same, but the bending moment increases. So, tongue weight should be lower than vertical load limit.

Instead of just fixing the 318ti...while you’re in there, spend the money to drop in a refreshed 6-cylinder (M52 perhaps) and a lower mileage 5-speed and renew your love for the E36/5.

Could probably offer $28K for it. it was definitely modified before and put back to stock so I would recommend to bring a mechanic or tuner that knows these cars, but the engine and drivetrain are stout. In it’s stock form, it is already a capable rally machine. this one only had 50K miles on it
