With the transfer case in neutral, nothing is transmitted from the wheels to the transmission or engine. Not sure why he’s saying you need to put it into gear to “lubricate the transmission” while being towed though. The reason to leave it in gear is to keep the rotating assemblies from rotating since the input shaft
