I can’t believe that of everything listed here I’m about to defend (kind of) DEATH WISH. Not because it was a great film, but I went in expecting a standard-issue Roth/repellent flick, and it was...quite watchable. And one of the first times in years I found Willis to appear to be both acting and enjoying himself. Did…
Look, you guys can do what you do, but if you don’t reference High Maintenance, The Venture Bros., Patrick Melrose, Random Acts of Flyness or The Expanse, well, what’s the point?
HOSTILES and PHANTOM THREAD got their wide releases in 2018; since I have no access to early screenings, that’s what I go by for my personal lists. Having said that, eligibility or no, you won’t ever make me buy the argument that BLACK PANTHER is a better film. It’s a ton of fun (I re-watched it this weekend) but…
I thought Update was great last night. (Bryant’s piece was particularly strong.)
I don’t mind dark or violent, but a kid gruesomely tearing through people...which is what that final scene sounds like...that’s kind of repellent to me. I hope it’s something more than just a lot of killing until they apply the film’s version of Kryptonite.
Thank you for including AVENGERS (which I still find deeply affecting) and GAME NIGHT (which I giggle through every goddam time).
Couple months back I saw Nick Cave in Dallas, and it was ridiculously good. That man loves his audience.
(applauds)
I realize now I used idiotic twice. (shrugs)
That one was one of the repeatedly least-funny shows in a long time.
Your review makes a decent case for the “limp” 1987 film.
I spent more than I ever planned to on GTA $, and I’ll never make that mistake again. But let’s say I plan to sell pelts, work missions, and seek out treasure to eek an existence; griefers absolutely fuck you over every time (it took a mere ten minutes before I was repeatedly attacked by a group of dudes - fucking…
Oh well...hey, it got three solid seasons. I’m gonna silver lining this one and say we got a good run out of it, and with D’Onofrio, one of the better villains over the entirety of Marvel’s properties.
Having just finished the epilogue last night, I can say I think this is a masterful, landmark-level game. Oh, it has its flaws...but they can be overlooked with all the strengths it bears. My one complaint last night: how is it I’ve built a house and I cannot bathe or shave or change clothes in it?
I mean, we can go into this knowing there will be a vast outcry against it, no matter how good it might be.
I regret that my takeaway here was: holy mackerel, how do you afford a highrise apartment like that as a sex worker?
The safe? Dynamite, my friend.
Out of everything listed here, it’s DREDD that I would say deserved better. It’s a remarkable action film, and doesn’t waver or dilute its character.
So, not an article; more of a math problem with pictures.
