I don't think it would mess with stats and algorithm enhancements. They can record each keystroke, instead of each search query, and compare it to the "final" result the user settles on.

@mikeness: I would guess just the opposite. Either they do use a RAID variation and he didn't explicitly point it out, or they don't use it because of a good reason.

I am definitely a Les Stroud fan. His Survivorman concept was simple genius and proof of his work ethic. While other shows, like Man vs. Wild, have something different and interesting, it is definitely cool to watch someone who is out, by himself, doing all of the work himself.
