up in fairbanks ak we run oil pan heaters too which helps with that problem. doesnt help the square tires though!

or if you’re in a place where it actaully gets cold

i have a block heater, oil pan heater, transmission heater, and battery trickle charger, and i still try and let my car warm up a few minutes before taking off when its really cold

(for the contiguous United States)

f’ing suck it up northern midwest, interior alaska is even colder, ambient temperatures dropping down to -48F before wind chill. but the midwest hits -20 and its armageddon. Oh no’s!

fun fact, barrow is warmer than most of these places right now. I have experienced winter there. its not bad.

man this is great. i saw a good dog working a herd of sheep in rocky mountainous western ireland one time and it was super impressive. i love working dogs.

I’m trying to buy a OBS F250 crew cab standard bed gasser with a 5 speed. It is an elusive unicorn.

I believe, maybe, you have been in -90 wind chill but unless you winter in antarctica you have not seen -90 ambient. -90 wind chill can be dressed for in relative comfort. It calls for a lot of experience and a decent amount of gear, but I’ve worked full days outdoors in it and could do it again tomorrow. But I am

yep, and almost all of them need new transmissions anyway. if you want to come to alaska i’m sure i could talk my neighbor out of hers

yeah be ready to pay almost$10k for that. My neighbor has one sitting in her yard and it kills me. I think it does need new head gasket and or head studs, but still. what a waste.

in alaska i like all 3...a lifted subaru on studded tires

snow tires

pro tip: plantation peanuts, right across the highway from virginia diner, has much tastier peanuts.

thats why old rasputin is so great. it hits all the right notes for me that an imperial stout should, but is a) easy to find b) reasonably priced c) comes in 12oz instead of 22oz

try stopping with studs on dry pavement....the worst

i see plenty of folks run all seasons at -40 every winter without issue

its not like you’re using both sets at the same time, each set will last ~2x as long, so it really doesn’t cost anything extra. Add a pair of steel wheels to put the winter tires on, a battery powered impact, and a floor jack and average it over 10 years...you’re not really spending much more

the only one of these i’ve even heard is portugal the man and i just think its great

neither my 81 ford or 97 subaru has it, and they have fillers on opposite sides
