Actually, GSP v. BJ Penn 2 was the first cross division super fight between current champions. GSP was the Welterweight champ and Penn was the Lightweight champ.

Am I reading Wikipedia wrong? Wasn’t McGregor and Alvarez two current champs? Wasn’t St-Pierre/Penn? Am I missing an esoteric clause as to why they don’t count?

Weren’t McGregor and Alvarez both champions at UFC 205? Also, I think GSP and BJ Penn fought as champions once as well.

I love AV Club, but what a sloppily written article. The name of the character is misspelled (even though he spells it in the skit) AND, most egregious, the skit NEVER AIRED ON TV, and DIDN’T TAKE ANYONE’S MIND OFF 9/11 since it didn’t air!!
