No reason you need to get a usb powered drive. Most usb powered drives are 2.5" drives inside. The bigger 3.5" drives perform better, come in 7200RPM flavours and are usually cheaper for the same capacity but need to be plugged into a wall for power. I don’t see why you would not use one of those for your PS4 instead.
