i also love that they get “ a day or two” to get their stories straight. must be nice.

There was video evidence of Eric Garner.

Oscar Grant, the sequel.

So Louisiana is both an open and concealed carry state, and yet this man is shot solely on the basis that he is carrying a gun?!?! And the NRA keeps telling us that arming ourselves makes us safer?!? Oh, right, black. Sigh.

NPR reported this morning that there was security camera footage from inside the shop, but the police took the shopkeeper outside put him in a car and removed the security footage and it’s system.

Sadly, just the fact that they yelled “gun” (whether or not there actually was one) will be evidence enough for any prosecutor to let them get off on the “fear for their lives” defense.

The punishment for sex offenses is not public execution. The process against someone carrying an illegal weapon does not involve murdering them. The facts you are bringing up are irrelevant to this story because they have nothing to do with getting gunned down by two policemen who probably won’t even be questioned

In Maryland our LEOBR requires we wait up to 10 days before asking any questions. Ten. Days.

But the cops didn't know any of that when they arrived on the scene. He could have been a serial killer and this shooting would have still be unjustified.

I think what Cpl. L’Jean McKneely meant to say was “to get their stories straight.”

It’s a little bit conspicuous that you don’t mention the fact that he’s a registered sex offender because he was convicted for performing sex acts with a minor.

I appreciate you putting a warning before the video. That’s literally all a trigger warning is: letting the brutalized know that some of the graphic shit they barely survived is about to be thrown in their faces, and they have the choice to look or not look depending on how much trauma they personally feel capable of

I hate to say it, but I have a feeling they’ll pull the “fear for our lives” crap and, given the video isn’t enough to disprove them, they’ll get away with it. Judges/juries almost always side with police officers and give them the benefit of the doubt, even when undeserved.

This has been flooding my timeline, but I won’t watch it. I can’t watch people die anymore. Cameras do nothing. Laws are being reinforced to protect police from prosecution and to give them even more leeway to kill black people without consequence.

“...officers were usually given “a day or so to go home and think about it get their stories straight” before being interviewed.”

I’m curious how this is going to pan out given there’s video evidence. I have a feeling the cops get away with this because, hey, why not? They’re already getting away with murder. Might as well see how far they can go before it becomes farcical.

The department’s spokesperson Cpl. L’Jean McKneelytold The Advocate that officers were usually given “a day or so to go home and think about it” before being interviewed.

They had that man on the ground when they yelled gun. They killed him.

Their body cams “fell off” in the same way that Chicago Police dashcam mics magically fail all the time (like in the Laquan McDonald shooting). I’m soooo shocked.

Yea and how you’re forced to have the same convo again and again. “Are you excited” “Omg so excited! Chubby cheeks and little shoes! I love them already!” and God forbid you say “not yet, I’m actually terrified and don’t feel any emotional connection yet”. It’s not so much being pregnant in public as being forced to
