Yeah I agree. She’s under no obligation to comment but she’s made both feminism and artists’ rights key platforms so saying nothing is a glaring omission.

I agree. Beyoncé has expended significant personal political capital in the name of her beliefs. Give her a break.
“with her particular brand of ‘feminism’.”
You mean, *marketing based, rhetorical*?
I think a difference between Swift and other self-proclaimed feminists artists is an aspect of reciprocity. After proclaiming that there’s “a special place in hell for women who don’t support for other women” you’d hope Swift would speak out on this. She never seems to hesitate to spout platitudes of female solidarity…
Black Lives Matter has a lot of things to do with feminism. Intersectionality, you should look it up. Her video for Formation is also feminist.
The creators of BlackLivesMatter are Black women. The muscle behind it are Black women. The people being mostly affected in Flint? Women and children. The idea that BlackLivesMatter has no relation to feminism is so backwards, but typical of White Feminism™. Black women doing something that is aimed at supporting…
Kesha’s accusations about Dr Luke and her battles with Sony have been going on for a long ass time. Not just this last weekend. And Taylor Swift is signed to Sony too. It’s damn near impossible for her to have not known about this. Of course Sony/Dr Luke should be the main object of our frustration and anger, but that…
Taylor Swift didn’t just make a huge, controversial, career-affecting, womanist statement through her music. Taylor Swift is also always on
twitter. Seems fair to ask where she is and why her ties to Sony trump her supposed feminist ideals, if you are the sort to ask that kind of question. But if you are that sort,…
Megyn Kelly Feminism
Because I feel that she has made being “feminist” part of her brand in recent months, but it doesn’t strike me as very genuine. Her silence here speaks volumes. Unless, as others have pointed out, it’s because she isn’t allowed to speak out as a fellow Sony artist. Honestly, though, she’s always been carful to…
Beyonce has been bailing out protestors, donating her tour proceeds to Flint, making videos supporting Black Lives Matter. Taylor Swift invoked a Madeline Albright quote and said there’s a special place in hell for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for making a joke about her, she used feminism to market her album and make a…
True, but Taylor has lately made being a feminist part of her brand, so many people are expecting her to say something, particularly in light of all of the author recording artists who have been vocal in their support. Your point about being part of Sony might explain her silence. I hope this is the case.
As a Black woman speaking specifically to and about Black women, there is much that Beyonce can do to piss off or not be enough for white feminists, and when she does do something, it will continue to be picked apart. So now since Beyonce hasn’t commented on Kesha, the measurement of a feminist is if she comments on…
Not to mention that she doesn’t usually speak out about anything. Her and Jay are more behind the scenes folks - bailing out protesters in baltimore, donating money to black lives matters, donating water to Flint, etc. All stuff you rarely hear about in the news.
No one said she wasn’t a feminist. If Taylor identifies herself as a feminist than by all fucking means, I will believe her. She has every right to decide for herself what feminism means to her. I just think that a lot of people, myself included, feel that we could take her self-proclaimed feminism a lot more…
I’m glad you posted this because I’ve been kind of disappointed about her not saying anything. Less influential artists have tweeted and Taylor Swift speaking out could really help, I think. After all, this is the woman who made Apple back down.
She’s much more of a *ruthless capitalist* than a feminist. Working the system for maximum profit via whatever buzzwords or endorsements available.
Maybe because she says stupid things like this:
I think its safe to say that Tay Tay is a pretty... shall we say- self-serving when it comes to her particular concepts of feminism.
Think it’s also because she’s so very “pro-establishment”.... *unless* her own profit points are at stake.
