I will see him in Temecula!

no because study after study shows this to be true

Portland had an extreme series of weather events right around the new year. It stayed below freezing for 3 weeks straight and dumped almost 15 inches of snow in 3 different bursts. Normally the roads get somewhat potholed during the winter but this was something else entirely. We had to import snow plows for

White people who live in majority minority communities often end up being super racist.

My high school used to play in a widely dispersed league which sometimes meant we’d play games way out in the boonies, in this case Gladstone, Oregon. Our third baseman was Asian-American and was subjected to what is to this day the worst racist treatment I’ve seen in person. He got called “chink” and “gook” at least

My dad was a federal employee in the Interior Department from Carter through Obama. He talks to his friends who are still there and it’s the same thing there. The major criticism I hear is not necessarily the director’s politics (Carter through Obama spans a pretty wide partisan gap) but that the new crop that came in

I know a lot of people are down on her, saying she didn’t really beat anyone and that the conference is weak, etc., but Chardonnay Pantastico is gonna do it this year.

Unfortunately the new format for the final is a tag team match and nobody is a stronger tag team than Alpha McMath and Shaft Cubit aka “da numba boys”

I’m looking for Boats Botes to make a strong run as the #14 seed and get to the Elite Eight before getting knocked out in the Elite Eight by Aphrodite Bodycomb. The Chrotchtangle Regional is exceptionally weak this year and I’m still stunned Quindarious Monday picked up a #1 seed especially with Faraj Fartass still

yeah the problem is my profanity not a bunch of ring kissing panjandrums serving up center-right self-serving bootstrappy anecdata laden pablum masquerading as Important Truths(TM). dumbshit.

I haven’t read a Reich column in years, he’s just the last one I remember enjoying. He is probably super old by now.

Whatever happened to Robert Reich? He’s the last guy I remember reading and enjoying. Krugman’s all right but too often it reads like econ-lite Gladwell-ian explaner bullshit.

I mean maybe, but I subscribe to the NYT and WaPo and I can’t remember the last time I read a useful opinion piece, or had anyone bring up an opinion piece in conversation, even in our newly politicized environment. And a mea culpa, I kind of misread HamNo’s argument, such as it was.

He didn’t really lump columnists with reporters but the piece kind of reads that way, mostly because HamNo didn’t really argue WHY opinion pieces are stale nonsense and just spent space calling them names.

Honestly who the fuck cares what opinion writers think? You’re lumping a bunch of calcified hacks in with actual reporters, who are doing incredible and vital work. The NYT has flaws, obviously, but slandering their reporters with the work of their opinion journalists isn’t fair to the people doing actual work.

Is there a difference between S60 and V70 seats? I drive a V70R and holy shit are those seats the most comfortable things I’ve ever put cheek to. Not only are they incredibly comfortable but they’re deeply bolstered so you feel cocooned in that buttery leather. I can’t imagine that you could improve upon the V70 seats

My response was worded imprecisely. I was attempting to draw a distinction between small farmers, who predominately live on the coasts and grow non commodity crops, and big agribusiness, which is the vast majority of midwestern farming. The point being that “midwesterners are farmers” is a reductive and outdated view

Yes, regulatory capture is used by monopolies to entrench their positions once the monopoly is in place. The idea that “excessive regulation” keeps people from starting businesses is fucking nonsense. I own a small business, and a friend of mine owns two, all 3 are in the food industry, one of the MOST heavily

You understand that most of the food Americans actually EAT is grown on the coasts, right? Midwestern “farming” is largely commodity crops and ranching.

This is just one of the reasons PDX is the world’s greatest airport. Local pricing laws mean the Rogue beer you’re drinking while you wait for your flight or the book you buy at Powell’s will be roughly the same price you’d pay anywhere else.
