I used to work for LM in their Arizona location. The auction for that location (what was left of it) was a few weeks ago- glad it didn’t get publicized. I got some good stuff from it. It was also fun as a former engineer to watch the mystery items get bid up speculatively, but to know how worthless they were- or

Funny how our government has managed to prosecute those people normally without resorting to “emergency powers”.

We have strong laws against hate crimes and groups up here, to the point of freezing bank accounts.

Sure seems like a lot of people on the left applauding this action in this comment thread.

Man, if only we had clear cut case studies of emergency authorizations being used to take civil liberties away permanently...

I’m sure you’ll be crucified for saying this, but it’s true.

Oh so protesting is a crime now? Are you only allowed to protest when the government says it’s okay?

You have two options:

Yeah, I was NOT a fan of the protests at all, and I think they were mostly far right nut jobs, but I do NOT think stealing their stuff is the way to go.
If they want to charge the protestors who broke laws, and then fine them, whatever.
But straight up taking it before any trials?
Nope, nopester nope.

Whether you agree with the reasons, it seems like a massive overstep to permanently seize personal vehicles of people protesting.

This is a clear cut case of civil forfeiture, and nothing to do with emergency powers or executive orders.  And frankly, if BLM were doing the same thing, would you be supporting it?

No it isn’t any different.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. This could be a really bad precedent if enforced. Fuck them, but I don’t think this is the way to go.

Not everyone understands what a “principle” is anymore, unfortunately.

I think if the party and cause affiliations were reversed, people would be screaming in protest.

Nothing like “emergency powers” being used to take people’s private property without recourse.

Best of luck in your future endeavors, its been a pleasure reading your work here. Especially the mad ravings of Torch.

Thanks Jason and David. Thank you.

Shit.

Somewhere, deep within the steel and concrete labyrinth that is Troy Michigan’s Zoning and Housing annex (Inspections and Enforcement wing), a grizzled man slumps into his chair. Tracy, D. - case file TM - 18-22/JP-Fe2-O3 had meant so... so damn much to him.
