Sorry for the late reply, but it is definitely that claustrophobia from the Empire’s omnipresence that heightens the tension of every action, and makes the struggles of the heroes feel genuinely desperate and paltry.

It’s very kind of you to give me plaudits for that, but really, it wasn’t much time at all. More serendipity than anything.
Unrelated, but hope your day is going well. :)
Well this is unexpected! Really though, I just got here early enough to post first, because multiple io9ers spotted it as well.
That said, thanks a lot. It’s been a pretty crap day, and seeing my name in an update on a Star Wars post just made it a bit better. So, cheers, and hope your day is going better than mine. :)
Cheers, but it appears that there were many observant io9ers. I just got here early enough. They clearly couldn’t pass up the opportunity of using the homophone “doom” though either.
I believe there will actually be 15 episodes total this season (chances are the finale will be a straight hour-long episode though). So thankfully a few more weeks of Rebels to enjoy.
I was watching Rebels Recon on Youtube with the subtitles on (the official post-episode videos), and it appears that the lothwolf is saying “Dume”, that is, Caleb Dume, Kanan Jarrus’ birth name. It would honestly be more surprising if Kanan actually makes it out of the series alive at this point. Also, while we’re…
I’m so excited by the prospects for this season.
Oh yeah, that sounds like a perfect way to make a new Fantastic Four film that doesn’t bomb.
Fox, just go to each of your executives’ kitchens and bathrooms, then try and put $155 million cash through the plugholes in the sinks. It’d probably be a less time-consuming way of throwing your money down the drain.
I currently peruse r/Fantasy to find book recommendations, but I miss the io9 discussions. We could start it off here I suppose. What are you reading?
I picked Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay yesterday, and am planning on alternating it with Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames, which I started a few days…
Hello Julie and best of luck with your new position!
It’d be really cool if we could have a weekly weekend post to discuss/recommend Sci-Fi/Fantasy/genre books we’re reading (even just a short “Book Thread: What Are You Reading?” post would suffice), because as good as io9 still is, it lost a bit of its distinctive…
Apparently I’ve always done this. When I first started speaking, I used to start every sentence over again if I made one mistake, even if I was almost done. And then I’d go on tangents. It sometimes took hours for me to finish explaining a thought because of this (that sounds hyperbolic, it’s really not, there’s video…
Yeah, because I imagine it was pretty amusing hearing her son go, “I have feelings for you” partly because of its brazen honesty, partly because of the phrasing, and partly because it’s a godawful way to go about professing that you’re crushing on a girl.
Lest you worry that somehow chuckling is an indication that my…
All done to the music co-composed by Academy Award winner Steven Price.
This film captured a tonne of talent just at the right time.
You know when you have a friend round, and it’s getting late, neither of you can think of what to do, but you kind of want to do something still that doesn’t involve much effort? That is the time to turn on Attack the Block. It’s funny and still has a tense atmosphere. Instantly improves any evening.
The only unfortunate thing about the two leads going on to now be massive stars is that finding time to film the potential sequel will be nigh impossible.
Oh yeah she was great in that too!
Exciting times! She was dramatically great in Attack the Block (alongside John Boyega) and Broadchurch, and very funny in Adult Life Skills (in amongst other good performances).
Here’s hoping Chris Chibnall gives her some good material to work with like he did in Broadchurch (and that his writing as showrunner is a bit…
Glad that my year old post brought back happy reminiscence, particularly in this rather dark period of time. May you be able to go back to Oz sometime soon, or somewhere else equally enjoyable, and make more happy memories, TheUmpireStrikesBack.
P.S. Truly that is an inspired username. Now you have me thinking of great…
Sweet Maladroit would be a great band name. But for what genre? Alternative rock?
I don’t think I can impress upon you how unsmoothly I delivered my affection to her. I have several decent qualities in amongst many flaws, but smoothness has never been one of them.
