Are you sure that's what she meant by "manly sentimentality"? It sounds like most of the commenters here are reading it as "sentimentality about toxic masculinity," but to me it sounds like a critique of the assumption that choppy, terse prose makes Hemingway's writing masculine and therefore not precious or

?? We wouldn't hold men accountable for not voting for the prostate exam guy because prostate exam coverage generally doesn't come with a risk of death and a minimum of 18 years of radically changed work, life, and emotional priorities. I get that the even-tempered tone is supposed to make your false equivalences

I think you're making a big illogical assumption saying that diversity is about characters who "look like me." Because people treat POC and other minorities differently, they have different life experiences, and it's incredibly difficult to talk about the life experiences that do grow out of difference without

High-powered attorneys who genuinely love their work and think they're helping people?

I think if you read Genji's comment, they clearly state "in what *was* an Asian role," implying it no longer is. The "no longer" is the issue, as is the movie's weird tautology where because a white person is playing the Major, it is sufficient justification to make the Major white despite virtually everything else

One, Trump is an idiot. And two, this clip clearly shows that before he decided to go on camera with Chuck, he'd never spoken or been introduced to him. Really great idea.

I never mind reporters baiting the hacks of this administration into showing they don't respect the rule of law and are abusing their positions in government for free product marketing.

LOL @ this attempt at portraying "whites" as cultured. Their horse in the Best Picture race was La La Land; you're not fooling anyone.

Yay! Now where's that USA drama about John Cho conning rich people out of their money while wearing fantastic suits?

Maybe they could use the Internet they love so much to open their minds. It's not the lack of access that's the problem.

Are you deliberately trying to make yourself sound illiterate?

The popular vote period tells me that Hillary Clinton won the election handily under math. We could invent ratios all day to pretend that a majority of people in this country support Trump, but that don't necessarily make it so.

I do
any and everything you
want to
make your girl say
ooh ooh
why's Sean so fly?

I get your point, but I think these "what if it were obama/hillary?" comparisons don't do justice to the extent to which Trump is not like any President we have ever had before. Not even Nixon.

So in other words, everything that brings relief, ease, comfort, security, or happiness to anyone, we're going to gut. Because if you were Really Deserving, I guess, you'd have earned all of that by your lonesome.

A fake is always dismissive of the real thing. It helps him pretend he's just as good.

Damn That Media. They Speaketh With One Voice. They Meriteth Proper Noun Capitalization. I Hope People Realize Media And Hillary Clinton Both Start With Capital Letters. That Is How You Know It Is A True Conspiracy.

I'm not sure that's why people were upset about his conversion… Just a hunch…

The liberals! Repeating phrases is as bad as [insert list of all the wretched things Trump has done in the past month without a peep from the GOP].

As another Asian American, I don't agree with this at all. It's not the re-casting of the role that is the fundamental problem; characters get changed all the time in adapting source material for film (even though that generic description of adaptation obscures the fact that adaptation often means whitening).
