I am sure Mario will eventually head to the point where you can choose between either Mario or another female character sooner or later. Pretty much every non-Mario (and related spin offs), Zelda or Kirby title put out by Nintendo in recent years have gone out of the way to give players the choice of male or female.

There is nothing all normal about a Slender man Mario hybrid showing up in anyone’s traditional Mario game.
