It's "not for adults" the same way current Pixar and Disney movies are "not for adults" if you ask me. I've never seen a good argument separating the current incarnation of the series from those shows other than reputation and budget, so I simply must chalk this kind of reaction up to sexism.

I generally like FiM, and I'd give this movie a C or C+ at best. Yeah it had some good jokes and poked some self-aware fun at its premise, and the characters pretty much sounded like themselves. But there were too many high school cliches that weren't subverted. Paper thin new characters with non-existent motivations.

Honestly, I'm pretty new here, but the AV Club's system seems to be:
A/A-: 5/5
B+: 4/5
B/B-: 3/5
any C: 2/5
D/F: 1/5
At least that's how I'd relate the letter grades to what I'm more conventionally used to from animation and anime sites. They seem to curve around a B, like a lot of colleges these days.

This review just took 4 minutes of my life and I want them back! Oh, I'd only waste them anyway.

Yeah, Supanatural is the only pilot I checked out, just because I have a compulsion to try all western adult-targeted animation, and I was done around the 7 minute mark. The concept is something a bit new and different, and that's about all you can say for it; the reviewer is being extremely generous here. I didn't

@avclub-991e8bf915707d1cebd758d4ae60b7aa:disqus Obviously the guy who wrote multiple paragraphs about MLP already isn't going to agree with you… but yeah, I don't agree. I do somewhat agree with you on Regular Show. I've been watching RS on Netflix and I like it, but ultimately it's 11 minutes of two lazy stoner

@Dagg:disqus Thanks for the reply, and sorry if I came across as at all terse. As Todd's article obliquely mentions, MLP was a giant, discussion-wrecking phenomenon in certain quarters of the internet for a good two years (and is still easily the most popular show on Reddit and 4chan when in season). It's been

@kjohnson:disqus Found your blog entry. I can agree that several - but not all - of the S3 plots stumbled in execution, although there were (rarer) instances of that in the first two seasons. However, I can't really agree with your perception of meanness in S3; it was a big problem that I had with post-Faust S2 but I

@Dagg: No, you're not being fucked with. Go read Todd's review where he gave the season 2 finale an A- and called it the best children's show airing right now. http://www.avclub.com/artic…

Hmm, care to expand your thoughts on MLP? I've heard such vastly different reactions to season 3, and was pretty disappointed AV Club didn't review it like the first two seasons. Frankly I continue to find it more interesting than any of the current shows being discussed in this thread - although admittedly it's

I'm not sure why people include season 9 in so many best-of lists. I can't think of a single all-time great episode it has.

Compare it to a fantasy Futurama, maybe? Generally warm and uplifting geek comedy with some culturally knowing snark, well developed quirky world that generally follows its own rules, small hints of progression. Nice production, cool people behind it.

I wouldn't say the show itself really gets mocked in FiW. It's more of an adult-humor show (crazy absurdism, screwed up characters) using FiM's excellent animation assets. I really look forward to episodes of it, I think it's as good as most professional adult-targeted comedies these days. I honestly love Sweetie Bot

I'm shocked to hear that an internet fanbase has some obsessive, terrible members.

I really liked the finale, even if there were a few small things I could critique with pacing and such. (So many episodes of this show would do better at a hour or as full-length movies). This article also hits the nail on the head as far as the show's appeal to adults. Yeah, a lot of weeks I don't get anything out of
