As a Gen-Xer who grew up with classic Trek and OT Star Wars, I’m perfectly happy in the knowledge that I’ll always have those versions to watch while new writers explore new iterations for a new generation of fans. Whether I like these new versions or not is merely up to chance, as with any new series, and I’m ok with

I think Star Trek Discovery and The Last Jedi took huge leaps forward in that they treat the characters like human beings and not archetypes.

If you’re looking for a very interesting take on this theme I would recommend “Lord of Light” by Roger Zelazny.
