I believe Ellen Pompeo is the mother to a black child. Like any mother, she advocates for her kid, striving to make the world a better, safer place. As she learns to look at things through her kid's eyes, her consciousness is getting raised. Don't attack the allies, even if they are clumsy in their actions or words.

Right, then I will STFU about diversity. When work only interviews white people I won't say a word, when my professional organization only recruits white people my mouth will stay closed, when WOC of color go missing and the news doesn't give them air time b/c they aren't white & blonde not saying anything. Brilliant

Yes, because she has absolutely no right to feel strongly about and comment on issues that directly affect the people she loves the most, or use her position of privilege to advocate to the wider community for a positive change in society. Right.

Word of advice: making a joke does not mean everyone has to laugh. You're not entitled to laughter.

What really got me was "I need to be strong for the kids that I did this for and people I did this for." She's so young! No teenager should have to feel that kind of pressure on top of everything else.

So, Mr. Smith, before you were stabbed were you wearing a shirt? When the knife pierced your chest did you specifically tell your attacker to stop? When he stabbed you the second time did you bother to say "No" in a firm clear voice? When you walked around being a jerk earlier in the day, weren't you pretty much

I have a friend who felt/feels this way about Simon Le Bon. Two kids and a 20+ year marriage and she still hates Yasmin with the intensity of 1000 suns. It's rather amusing to witness.

I shudder to think what I would have written about Duran Duran. My middle school locker was embarrassing enough.

I would cry too if I had Terry Richardson six inches from my face.

Stupid shit like calling gay men "girl" is what contributes to making it difficult for young gay men to come to terms with their sexuality.

I agree. It certainly doesn't seem like Macklemore is claiming he's the first person to support LGBT rights, or the first rapper, or that he's MLK. He wrote a song that suggests that gay people are people. That seems like a good thing, and to criticize him because other people are making more of the song than he

Now why shit all over Macklemore for no goddamn reason? The person who made the ignorant comment comparing him to Dr. King? Sure! But Macklemore didn't do a damn thing to you or anybody else.

Of course Massachusetts, state capital Boston, loves creampies...

Exactly. Thank you.

You cannot defend a woman's right to do what she wants and then suddenly demote her to the position of a defenceless young girl when she does stupid shit. Part of being a woman is being allowed to do idiotic things without someone thinking you've been forced into it.

Guys, GUYS, what if Miley is a genius and showing us everything that is wrong with our culture in an ironic way? Like, she's doing the whole infantilization and cultural appropriation to make us SEE its bad bad bad.

Well there's early cinema footage taken by Mitchell and Kenyon of the two finger salute being used in the 1900's that was shown in one of the various BBC series on their work. It has been recorded in text since at least the 1530's (Rabelais Gargantua and Pantagruel). There is also a rather famous illustration in the

I'm also slightly perturbed how 'black culture' and 'black people' as terms in the articles/comments are being used to mean 'North American black culture' and 'North American black people'. Particularly as the entire thrust of the dialogue is about cultural/racial appropriation!

OH. MY. GOODNESS. Thank you for saying this. Seriously. I am black. I am a woman. I do not dress like Miley Cyrus nor do I have the desire. Miley Cyrus is allowed to dress however she wants. I am allowed to dress however I want. This isn't about "dressing black" because there is no such thing. Black people are allowed
