This is the first death in 130 million miles of Tesla autopilot use. The average in the US is one in 100 million miles, and in Florida is 1.24 in 81 million miles. Tesla is doing a far better job of setting up the car to drive safely than the average human does.

Assuming what you’re saying is true, and autonomy will increase the number of accidents cause by “dumb” things that could have been avoided had the driver been paying attention, is it “acceptable” if the overall accident rate goes down?

That data is meaningless without understand the demographics of Tesla owners vs the general driving population.
