The reality is that minimum wage or near minimum jobs are what average unemployed workers are faced with. I don’t know where you live, in my arms you could be making 11/hr and still be on foodstamps. The opptunity for economic mobility is not what it used to be.

America is turning into a service based economy, where do you think job losses in the manufacturing sector go. There are not enough high paying service jobs on Wall Street or Silicon Valley to compensate so they end up at low paying retail and food industry jobs.

I don’t think so. The issue here is that city wasn’t giving people court dates so they can contest their tickets, they were sending out fines you had to pay. If they send a summons of when to appear in court, they can keep issuing citations.

Protectionism certainly does work for auto, steel and other manufacturering industries in developing countries, the only caveat is their governments must instill export discipline for them to be successful. If their only goal is to produce for the domestic market, then yes they certainly will fail.
