If I still had the ability to heart commenters here, I would do so and then unheart you just so I could heart you once again for the Hugh reference & gif. That's how much I love this.

I had an Ariel doll that I played with in the tub in the early '90s, and nothing like that exists on the market now - flat feet (when you remove the tail, that is), a chest that was reasonable for the character, and an overall non-emphasis on her "sexiness" - man, I miss that doll.

THIS! Every time I'm at the store, Disney or otherwise, this is my exact gripe! And, as someone who grew up obsessed with lady characters that could fight & toy versions of them that came with things like swords, I am continually disappointed by the lack of any recent Mulan doll being packaged with at least a sword.

Well, they were the Misfits, their songs were better. They were The Misfits, The Misfits, and they were gonna her.

Jiz! I always feel wrong for loving these re-cut overdubs, but I do.

Also, while not perfect, if I compare that image to most current girl-oriented doll & tv show lines, it makes me realize how little awesome, adventure-y things there are on the market now for girls. I snap up what little I can here or there for my niece, but man, we had it made with She-Ra & her rebels back then.

Me & your middle sis would have probably gotten along just fine on the playground back then. When I was in kindergarten, I wanted to somehow grow up to be an insane mix of She-Ra, Cheetara from Thundercats, Princess Leia, Wonder Woman & Marion Ravenwood in the first part of Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Okay, deep down

I think you may have mistyped there - those "sad"s should be "AWESOME!"s.

Fucking YES She-Ra! Princess of goddamn Power! (I might have marched down to my local comic book shop about a month back & demanded that they order me the above variant cover for the new Masters of the Universe comic. BECAUSE SHE-RA & SWIFTWIND!)

He & Paul Newman were in a few movies together that would often appear on TMC, which very much helped my adolescence out a-plenty (see also: Steve McQueen, young Brando, Gene Kelly, and 1956-era Yul Brynner).

Yeah, I'll take young Robert Redford over Leo any day. Hachi-machi!

Yes. I didn't get further than a paragraph into the story before this song got stuck in my head and made me mentally say "I blame Aerosmith for all of these scenes."

Yeah, at least our hopes get crushed early on - the few post-season years I've seen in my Cubs fandom have by far been worse than the incredibly-frequent mediocre-or-worse years I enjoy on WGN nearly annually.

No. Just... no.

What I find fun is that the "Mac" part of names like Mackenzie actually means "son of", yet is used almost exclusively in girl first names.

I've mostly considered family names for my someday-kids, like my great-grandma Lilian (who went by "Sally" for some reason - didn't find out her real name until the funeral), or my grandma Charlotte (despite resurgent popularity). I also kind of wish my maternal grandma hadn't demanded that nobody saddle another child

Yeah, from what I've read, Bill Clinton's a straight-up vegan now, the kind that tries to avoid most oils as well (which is tough, I've tried that way of eating before). Good for him taking his health seriously after all those bypass surgeries.

Now playing

So, yeah, I was late to the Parks & Rec party. I'm still catching up via Netflix (up to Season 4 in about 1 month of watching!), and I'm sooooo looking forward to finally catching up to this season, if just for this scene and Retta's perfect moment-of-entry within it.

Slides are the BEST! When I was little and went to my grandparents house, I always asked them to pull out the slides for a slideshow. (I think this might be the root for the inexplicable joy I feel when around retro/atomic-age/mid-century things or watching Mad Men and just looking at the fashion and set design. But

I'm a Carter-baby-from-the-'80s, and I already make fun of the terrible current fashion. Also, I always wanted to be a '70s survivor, but my parents decided to wait to have me until they were almost 30. :( There a a part of me that has a deep, ingrained love for the decade's fashion and just all-out craziness, and
