Not buying it for a second. Porn and its internet ubiquity would have played a much greater role in normalising the removal of pubic hair. The only vaginas most guys would have seen through their teenage years were hairless. That's going to cause a lot of social pressure.

Making threats is serious and should always be investigated but when that investigation turns up no evidence that the threats could or would be carried out then it should be a fine at most, not 8 years. That is a complete over reaction to the situation.
