Wikipedia says it has plastic body panels.  That might be a reason (or an excuse) for the panel gaps.  Plastic expands when it gets hot in the sun so it requires larger gaps than Audi would tolerate.  GM has used plastic several times (Saturns, Fieros, Corvettes) and always gets dinged for their wide gaps.
