Right, a person can be smart and interesting and good without reading books. They can be cultured without reading books. There is nothing wrong with not having books. And past that, maybe you do have books but you just don’t have them displayed - why should you feel the need to show them off? Why should you be judged…

I’d never judge someone for not having books on display, but I do find that a bookshelf is perhaps the single best conversation piece a room can have (assuming they’ve read most of the books).

So I might not recommend them if you’re trying to sell your house, but to actually live and entertain in, themed rooms are great.

The “seem” is really the giveaway in the article. As this (and the trophy quote) highlight - it’s not about whether the person reads or values books, it’s about whether they are willing to openly signal that they are One Of Us, part of the great intelligenstia who values books as a thing to spend money on and display.

yeah, i don’t know why the hate.  thoroughly enjoyed the series and was stoked for more, and i’m a ginormous fan of the anime.  so disappointed, cho and  the rest of the crew deserved another season.  bummer.

Yeah, the chemistry between the three leads is what I liked most about the whole thing, and I’m in the minority of people that actually liked the show. They all did a great job.

It wasn’t great but it was fun to watch. They may have been able to salvage it with another season, especially since the core cast was good.
