Damn you, Kinja.

That’s why I said that his penis is racist, not him.

Now playing

This is an American stereotype, and it comes from this single scene from Full Metal Jacket:

Believe me, there are plenty of Asian men who are pining for a time when women were less powerful so that they could have “perfect housewives”. And I want to smack them in the face for it, but that’s just me.

We are so spoiled by that show now.

Only if you choose not to believe me.

That’s the thing though, I’m not going to accept that “everything is okay except for the racists”. The racism is institutionalized. It’s part of the social infrastructure. It’s built up from a history of racism, of sexism, and all kinds of bigotry. So of course I’ll continue yelling at racists, but also pointing out

Because his comment is reinforcing the “horny Asian girl” stereotype in a terrible way.

Ugh, I get it, I do. I’m just saying that the experiences are not comparable, I’m not saying my hardships are harder than others’. Dude I replied to wasn’t empathizing, he was reductive of racism in schools, saying “get over it, I dealt with bullying, you can deal with racism”. It doesn’t work that way. I personally

I was mostly thinking of domestic helpers in the migrant worker case. White people ain’t gonna be taking over those jobs, that’s for sure.

The solution is as simple as it is difficult: make racism fall out of favor. Change society until racism is as unpleasant an idea as urinating in public. Unfortunately racism has a really good PR campaign going for it. It’s going to take a lot of time.

Acceptance, tolerance, understanding, empathy and the freedom to be anyone we want to be. The solution is that simple, yet it’s one of the hardest things to have in a society. The idea isn’t to “pretend to act that we are all the same”, but to stop judging people for being different. We aren’t all the same, but we

That is... surprisingly sad.

If this sentiment is hard for you to understand, watch Season 5 episode 11 of South Park, titled, “The Entity”.

I’m not justifying anything. I’m just saying the comparison doesn’t really work. HowardC was bullied and that’s terrible, no joke. A lot of kids have gone through this bullshit. Power to anyone who lives through it to tell the tale.

The people who don’t acknowledge that racism against anyone is a thing just because they have anecdotal evidence of members of said race “doing better than them” are being, surprise, racist.

Having trouble finding a source online, but years ago I read period reviews of a minstrel show for a class and they tended to clamor about how “authentic” the show felt and how “realistic” the make-up was.

The self-deprecation is ironic, but the self-hate is very real. I honestly don’t care how much culture is retained or lost, my nephews not speaking Vietnamese doesn’t mean the end of the world. But Asian-Americans have a lot of baggage on their shoulders to examine. And anyone who uses race as a qualifier for their

I think I like his books more than Korra. That might just be the Appa-love talking, though.

Stereotypes actually rarely hit the mark, because nowadays they’re based on centuries-old stereotypes that don’t really fit anymore. That sad part is that our brains pick out salient bits and project them onto minorities more than the other way around, because of our own limited experiences.
