How is this a surprise? By sales numbers, No Man’s Sky was a huge success. It was a huge success before it was released based on pre-orders alone. This is why everyone should be skeptical of hype.

I didn’t. The reaction to the game was exactly what I expected. When the dev can’t adequately explain what the moment to moment gameplay is, then it’s not going to be a good game.
You do know that FFXIV is sold through Steam AND SE’s storefront. And most sales go through SE for ease of use. Right?
They’re highlighted in the article if you read it.
The problem with hype is that it takes longer than two hours to realize the hype is wrong.
Enough people to outsell Dishonored 2? No. The vast majority of those sales were due to pre-orders and overwhelming hype.
If CD Projekt Red was like most developers, say Ubisoft for example, then Blood and Wine would’ve been its own separate game. And it would’ve cost $60. And it would’ve had a dozen different deluxe versions. Despite it all, it still would’ve been one of my favorite games of the year.
Granted I haven’t used it in a year, but I never had an issue finding anything older than ~6 months on Marvel Unlimited. I was very impressed.

A UPS like this is meant to let you save your work, upload a backup, and power down the machine in the case of a power outage. Not to keep you gaming until the lights come back on.
