That episode came up on a recent marathon and I couldn’t watch it because it too closely reflected my own experience; an experience I never dealt with but has been pushed to the surface largely because of these dialogues. It really is terrifying how much American society has normalized this as regular party behavior…

One of SVU’s better episodes was about, of course, a young woman being assaulted at a party, in almost the exact circumstances described by Dr. Ford. One of her would-be sorority sisters (she’s been rushing one) was really brutal to her, basically trying to prove she had deserved it through sheer vocal battering.
