When women are harder on other women, it’s partially to blame that women for whatever they can think of to deploy so that they don’t have to imagine it happening to themselves as a member of that same group.

I work for a large professional regulator and find it immensely depressing every time I am involved in a hearing involving any kind of sexual allegation because I know how it will go. During deliberations in camera you always get the usual dismissals and questioning of the victims motives. Questions like ‘well why has

Thank you so much for this comment! I’m not a Beyoncé stan either, but I do find myself getting quite irritated every time I read comments like that of the original poster. It just strikes me as racist that every time anything positive is written about her on this site, white women pile on to call her mediocre and

...churches [have] been a safe place for black people to gather (generally) for a century...

Why is it helpful that she does this? How is it useful to portray all of ones white characters as having a violence about them and all of ones black characters as fluid, warm and stable? I get that it is not even nearly as damaging as the reverse, which we unfortunately see all too often, but what does it achieve?

I agree that if someone is into you, they will make time. And they will want to be exclusive. It is just generally easier and more pleasant than the situation you have described sounds. Walk away. This guy is wasting your time.

I love Elmo! But my 17 month old hates him. Yesterday my husband had to put the talking Elmo toy my son was given for Christmas in the hallway, because he kept freaking out and running away from it at speed. He acts like Elmo is the cute furry lord of the underworld come to whisk him to his doom.

I replied to Patti LaBelle’s Pie Recipe saying:

I’ve also now looked through all of the articles on this site and none of them bear out your claim. Quite the opposite in fact.

I googled (various wordings of the phrase) and found nothing. Also I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Purple Hibiscus came out well over ten years ago and I have never heard of or read about her saying anything like that.

Nothing. She is saying nothing that is incorrect. I am also baffled.

But surely of the recent Republicans, Trump has been the most brazenly contemptuous of women. I mean I don’t think it would be an overreaction to feel less safe as a woman in the US (not just in relation to rights but also physically) now that Trump has won. It surprises me that even in the light of the danger he

Thank you!

Kate I’m really confused as to why Jezebel has not written about the rather surprising (to me anyway) fact that the majority of white women voted for Trump. Despite his patent misogyny. Surely this is a big story? Especially in the light of claims that have been made in the past about the role of white women in

For those who are both black and female in the United States, I understand how one would be willing to put aside disrespect for one side of their identity to watch a movie about a group that was extremely important to another part of it.

I just don’t think they have anybody to include. IMO that’s the larger issue, not that they didn’t put in a token minority woman.

they didn’t willfully edit out or exclude members of color

That said, you’re comment is reductionist bullshit.

These kids are about as London as a branch of J Crew.
