This was my first thought as well. Something like the manufacturer of my truck charging $100 for the “engine block heater”, when in fact every engine comes with the block heater. You’re paying $100 for the cord that provides access to it, which you can pick up for $15 or $20.

Valid point. I’m probably a bit biased because I think most of the ICE bans are more performative than realistic (2035 is not that far out and we have a lot of EV problems to solve in that time to be able to actually ban ICEs), but I guess we’ll see.

With many fleets aiming for 2030/2035 as 100% EV, and some states and many foreign countries outright banning new ICE vehicles after those dates, it’s asinine that USPS even considered that a vehicle with a 20 year life (aka at least a decade after the bans) to be ICE.

Last night I got stuck at self-checkout behind a bunch of people who had entire carts full of groceries that wouldn’t even fit in the self-checkout bagging area. The one self-checkout station that didn’t have one of these a-holes got at least three people through before one of the others opened up.

I’ve never had the “pleasure” myself, but I’m told that rendering day at a meat plant is truly vile.

Agreed. Given how much cropland is used to grow corn for ethanol, I find it highly dubious that farm capacity is at all a factor in hunger these days.

HIDs can also burn out and are much, much more expensive to replace.

People like to think they’ll be calm and rational when things go sideways, but in reality most people freak out to one degree or another and in that mental state it’s easy to miss things.

It’s like Car Talk, but without all the snorting laughter and attempts to vocally reproduce the noise.

Legal, maybe, but I believe Tesla owners have gotten nastygrams from Tesla if they overuse their local superchargers. Tesla’s stance was that superchargers are for when you’re travelling, not to replace charging at home.
