I see what you did there. It took me a second, but I see it. :-)

Oh, nonsense. $10k is what I spent on my first car while I was still in college 15 years ago, and it was well within my means back then. It’s entirely possible he could spend $30k on a car and still load up his 401k. I did, and I was making much less than $120k, even adjusted for inflation.

It’s pretty much like starting a sentence “With all due respect”, which is a 100% indicator that something disrespectful will follow. :-)

Yep, I consider the different possible interpretations of NPoND to be part of the fun. I will NP either because the price is right or because I have an irrational love for the car. I will ND because the price is wrong or because I have an irrational hatred for the car. Any of those (and likely others I haven’t listed)

They’re either not paying much attention to the finance podcasts or they’re listening to pretty bad finance podcasts.

I don’t understand all the confusion over why they have the boat. It’s literally right there in the article:

I hear there’s a place in Nevada where you can get your hummer fix for a lot less than $58k. ;-)

I saw an ad last night for a tactical shaver. It was a bog standard electric shaver that some marketing genius decided would sell better if they called it “tactical”.

A rebuilt Prius pack isn’t equivalent to a rebuilt engine though. You’re doing well if you get 2-3 years out of a rebuilt battery made up of a bunch of equally old modules scrounged from other dead batteries. They’re really not a good idea unless you’re just looking to get the car working again long enough to sell it.

I bet these owners really regret not renewing their waterproofing subscription.

If you live in the US it is always truck month.

These are before my time so I have no nostalgia for them and I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason to buy one at this point, especially with that mileage. ND.

I’m curious, does anyone here actually watch Wheel of Fortune to be able to comment intelligently on whether this is a well-known rule that is typically enforced? I don’t, but it seems like on a show as long-running as WoF this situation would have come up before and we could judge based on that precedent.

The problem with hydrogen is twofold: 1) It’s absurdly inefficient to generate in a clean way and 2) We’re decades away from having even minimally sufficient hydrogen infrastructure to replace ICE cars.

Ha, that’s always my thought as I watch the precious-metals-and-gemstones class board. On the one hand I’m jealous of their perks, on the other hand I would hate to do what they had to do to get there.

A kei car modified to have a peeing hood ornament? I’m thinking collab between Torch and Mercedes... :-)

That’s why our plates have to be replaced every 7 years too. :-)

During all the BLM protests last year someone from my hometown asked (in all seriousness, AFAICT): “How are black people treated any differently?”

I mean, Ford killed off the Fusion when it was selling around twice that many per year. o.O

I’m sure there are going to be a lot of people underwater on their car loans when this all shakes out, but it probably won’t be as bad as the housing situation because of the type of loans.
