Now’s as good a time as any to announce that Aaron W. Gordon has joined the staff of Jalopnik. He’s an ace investigative reporter with bylines at Vice Sports, The New Yorker, Wired, something called “Deadspin” (sic?) and a lot more.

The answer, as always, is clear:

No, but there are people who, if they have (say) $100 to spend on sports, will spend it on trip to one football game rather than 2-3 baseball games.

one possibility here is that the White Sox (and other teams) are willing to raise their offers, but not until right before spring training starts. ...It’s what happened with JD Martinez last year, and it resulted in the Red Sox getting him for a bargain-basement five years and $110 million.

Just go to the teams page on baseball reference, scroll down to player value and add the hitters to the pitchers (they’re kept as separate categories).

And beyond those lies the abyss.

Honestly, MLB really should try to add a third team in NY or another into LA or an AL team into Philly or a NL team into Boston. All of those markets could easily absorb another team. It won’t happen b/c of the politics but new teams in those locations would probably do better than a team in Portland.

New York could use a second team
