Essentially no contemporary country music is written by the performers. That’s part of the reason why it all sounds the same; it’s written by a handful of songwriting sweatshops.

It’s a real shame what the majority of mainstream country has devolved into these days. Old school, classic country is one of my favorite things to listen to.

Possibly because what passes for a clever lyrical concept in a modern country song works better as a bumper sticker.
