haha, "Arrhenius clearly believed that a warmer world would be a positive change. His ideas remained in circulation, but until about 1960 most scientists doubted that global warming would occur (believing the oceans would absorb CO2 faster than humanity emitted the gas)."

So ... about that outrage ...

Like midichlorians? Because I'm pretty sure the military isn't going to go into battle with anything that requires happenstance to recharge it. That means diesel generators will need to be hauled around by deuce-and-a-halfs.

I'm sure the fragile solar panels will be fine after the mortar attack. And no way will the Taliban use the windmills for RPG practice.

"more energy efficient and rely less on fossil fuels."

They could. But the interesting fact is that, for California's water:

It's not that simple. Companies have been trying to build new reactors for decades.

Not to mention the moratorium on new oil refineries...

He'll fight...he just wants to ask permission from Uncle Putin first.

Our electrical grid is right on the edge as it is. Almost every part of the country teeters on a brown outs or rolling black outs when summer hits. And it's not because people aren't using more efficient gadgets. It's because no one in power has the courage to take on the environmental lobby. It's going to take

Bingo!

If we had newer, safer, and efficient reactors trees and bunnies will be happy. Less smog and less nuclear wast to deal with. I don't understand this paranoia of nuclear power. If nuclear power had happened before nuclear warheads this debate would be less emotionally driven.

Replace them again like we have wanted to do for 15 years but haven't been able to because of politicians and environmental lawsuits and then need to keep them going beyond their intended life-span because there's no other option short of rolling black-outs?

Hey, remember that one time there was the nuclear thing at 3 Mile Island and the president was all like "I'm actually Jack Bauer, I've got this nuclear situation on lock down!" and he ran directly into the center of the reactor and became Dr. Manhattan? Nowadays the president won't even fight with a robot that has

I dunno...the last major nuclear plant disaster here was 3 Mile Island. The last really major building collapse was 9/11. Boeing planes aren't falling out of the sky. Bell helicopters are still flying. Bridges are still standing...although they are in need of major retrofits...as is most of our infrastructure. The

Public opinion generated and guided by environmental hyperbole upon a woefully ignorant populace .

Yeah...I mean...replacing 40 and 50 year old reactors with modern pebble or thorium reactors that create about 1/10 of the radioactive waste...that are already encased in magnesium ...what a stupid idea...you're right.

Because...using current technology would rob the environmentalists of their sensationalized fear porn inspiration...

Unfortunately its a large reason. Environmental laswsuits are the biggest problem.

Two lessons. 1) Don't let Soviet Russia build your reactor and have people follow procedure. 2) Don't build your nuclear facility on/near a fault line that's on the coast.
