I *adore* The The! And if you're referring to the band as a shorthand for anything else that has that soulful, bluesy sound, I'm sure it counts as a micro-genre ('cause that's what I do, although like you I find everyone just gives me a blank stare in return).
I myself have lately taken to muttering "bah!" when it becomes apparent to me that someone doesn't care about the subject I'm attempting to converse on. Makes me feel a bit better about being blatantly ignored.
I greatly admired him in Impromptu, but that could also be due in part to my huge crush on Franz Liszt… I love the high cheekbones/prominent nose combo, but Sands has lost his luster over the years. Age hasn't been so kind to 'im.

I'm glad someone mentioned this, 'cause I was about to myself in a bit more of an animated fashion. Factual errors really get on my nerves, especially if I find 'em on a (generally) reputable site like AV Club. I just hope somebody notices and changes the article to reflect it, or I'll likely continue to be irked.
Never heard much else by Rasputina, but I too love The Lost and Found. "Bad Moon Rising" is great, but my favorite has to be "Wish You Were Here." Every time I hear the cello run through those notes, I swoon.
