Why is that a problem? Aside from the fact that it’s hilarious pseudo-science (sorry, Mr. Aykroyd, it’s true), there’s a ton of parapsychology stuff in the movie. They mention Tobin’s Spirit Guide a bunch. There’s discussion of historical haunting events. You put quotes around the word but there genuinely IS a lot of

He’s always been hard to contact as he only takes calls through an answering service, which he frequently just outright ignores. I enjoy his work but honestly if I had to deal with that shit I would go to another actor.

That tracks with his weirdness. I wonder if self-awareness of his obstinance over GB3 combined with his grief and regret over what happened with him and Ramis is part of what pushed him to show up for Afterlife.

I had a fun interaction with an assistant to an exec on that project. We were chatting about something, don’t remember what, and he mentioned a GB3 draft we just got where Venkman was a ghost. The idea was that IF Murray didn’t want to be on set he wouldn’t have to be, they could do voice-over or mo-cap or something

It baffles me when people dismiss the lore and the depth of the first film under the talking point of “It was just a comedy featuring big name comics from the time.”

I don’t think that’s true. It does often get credited as a funny movie, which I think is fair. And I don’t think the movie itself is pandering but the press around it definitely felt that way. Especially from Paul Feig, who seemed to be constantly patting himself on the back for gathering together a group of funny

For future reference, if someone is directly accusing me of taking up a position that I’m not taking because the position that I AM taking happens to coincide in some minor way with someone ELSE who has a position I DON’T have, how should I feel? I guess I’m struggling with the difference between people talking

You might be right but I don’t know how anyone could justify that thought process. Jon *only* took on the Watch leadership because he could as the bastard of a nobleman and all his mates peer pressured him. He was never going to end up on the Iron Throne. Fucking Sansa had a better chance and claim than Jon.

As tiresome as I find the continuation of this old, stupid topic of conversation, it’s just nice to be able to comment on an article. Pour one out for the Kotaku comments if you haven’t already poured one for every other fucking tentacle of this fatally wounded sea creature FKA Gawker Media.

FWIW I was still working in the Sony story department around the various development hells vis-a-vis a Ghostbuster sequel. And the biggest issue was that there were *several* drafts of a Ghostbusters III going around the office. Most of which involved the participation, even if it was simply voice-over, of Peter

So while I 100% acknowledge that this sort of thing is anecdotal, I very much dealt with a group of friends who said, almost word for word, how awesome Answer the Call was going to be. They are sketch and improv comedians and feminists and they were absolutely relentless. And would not hear a word against it.

I may be in the minority on this but I also really dislike the narrative in Bridesmaids and felt like Answer the Call was *kinda* rehashing that BFF tension from Wiig. Who has more range than that.

That was, indeed, the problem. But those of us who hate misogyny yet also identify as cis men were told in no uncertain terms that our ho-hum or negative reactions were inherently sexist. It was the worst fucking rhetoric no matter where you looked.

Ehhhhh... Gonna slightly object to including Lock Stock on a list of QT wannabe films. Like what are the qualifications for a QT wannabe? Casually violent action and an emphasis on banter-y dialogue? Cuz that’s pretty vague. And while I see the parallels between Ritchie and QT I think he’s proven to be his own

As long as we’re praising Dastmalchian I’d like to recommend the woefully underrated and prematurely canceled Hulu Original Reprisal. It’s a Rockabilly Noir with some fantastic performances, including Dastmalchian, and a tone/vibe I absolutely love and have not seen done nearly as much as I’d like.

Kissing Jessica Stein came out at a very important time for me artistically. I was in my junior year of undergrad in a Digital Film/TV Production program and KJS was one of my first indie film interests. I was fairly mainstream-minded before then and mostly consumed mainstream material.

I dl’d the character creator demo on PS5 but I don’t know that I’ll pull the trigger on the game. When I play tabletop, generally D&D, the last things I care about are travel and encumbrance. I also don’t love the idea of timed quests. I get the appeal and support it as an artistic design choice but I don’t like it.

Okay. But be honest: How many literary nerd websites do you peruse in a given day? I understand your parallel here but I wonder how honest it is. I, myself, don’t go on lit nerd websites. Maybe there ARE short fiction fans on those sites complaining about huge books.

Oh for sure. I very much agree with many criticisms of that last season, from the narrative rush to production issues like the visual darkness/lack of proper lighting/consideration of home TV experience. But I also think people got hyperbolic about their dislikes and conflated not liking story resolutions with those

I would also argue that people’s dissatisfaction with the outcomes of several specific characters in the finale colors their view of the season as a whole.
