So many people jump up to compete in the body shaming opression olympics. I've been both, and life was so much easier as a thin woman (becoming disabled fairly early in my adulthood saw me gain almost 45 kilos. Yes- kilos, not pounds). I see thin people complaining to fat people about body shaming much the same way…
Why don't you actually read what was written? Firstly, she's thin herself. Also- she's right. All body shaming is bad- but fat people have it on a level that thin people simply don't. This doesn't mean that thin shaming is okay, or that experiencing it doesn't hurt. I've been both, and let me tell you- life is so…
Thank you. I have been both thin and fat- there is no comparison.
They didn't say it eas okay- just gave a reason why. In fact, they were pretty clear in saying it's not okay.
Having an anti-science midwife can be deadly. I don't get the flippancy.
I don't think it is a non-problem. (Although from what I've seen in my country with universal health care, home birth is a very middle/upper class thing to do, so one could make the argument that it is a classist issue).
It's funny- I think the very first thing I learned when studying psych at uni was to distrust pop psychologists in general, and dickbag Phil in particular. I admit to bias.
Except for the fact that he's no longer licensed.
I call him "dickhead" phil.
Her obesity isn't the only concern- it's an *added* concern, and is another way in which it is shown that she isn't being parented with competence.
You know, I really hope you're wrong about the fat acceptance crowd. I'm fat (and fat accepting) but an obese child is clearly a big issue- both in terms of her health and the parenting (or lack of) she may be receiving.
There are so many good commenters that are perma-grey that I immediately show pending. The grey system only works when good commenters get promoted to black, but that just doesn't seem to happen.
I was a fit and healthy kid who became a fat adult (mostly due to disability)- and it's not body shaming to raise concerns about the wellbeing of a clearly obese child. That family needs intervention in more than one way.
I never really understood the American predeliction for partying at uni- you're there to learn. Then again, we typically don't live on campus (and are generally legally allowed to drink by the time we get to uni)
The only way to do the last is to bring back John Bonham- if you can manage that, I will worship you as my god.
I've always replied that I'm glad my mother got to CHOOSE to keep me. Abortion was an option, so it shows that she really WANTED me. I wouldn't want to be an unwanted, regretted child.
That's awesome.
That's a pretty risky prospect depending on your country. It was only a week or so ago a woman was put to death for doing exactly that in Iran.
They were in love long before Diana cane along. Of course, the fact that he cheated (and Camilla participated) doesn't change, but he always loved Camilla, he should have never been forced to wed Lady Di- for all that their children made it worthwhile.
