There are some "packets", as we call them here, which give you extra texts or minutes. Some are even "unlimited", if you use the minutes/sms in your own network. Truly unlimited texts

Just like me. I'm not in the US and I use prepaid, so no unlimited texts for me. When my girlfriend finally started using android, we switched to google talk for "texting".
