I also like Turtledove's idea in "The Road Not Taken", that FTL travel is so ridiculously easy and unrelated to anything else, that most species just stop developing other tech and get their curiosity satisfied by exploring and/or conquering other worlds.
But why is that bad? Since I read Harry Turtledove's "The Road Not Taken", I like the idea of some species coming across a piece of technology or inventing something by accident, and then not bothering with further development in other fields, because it makes their lives easy enough. Maybe they're not as curious as…
But we also dream of building bipedal mecha, so there's that. And of course, the invoked Rule of Cool.
Also, the first movie, through most of it, implied there's at least some hope.
Well, their free account uses a java interface, which is slow and pretty horrible, but works. You'll have to upgrade to use ftp and automatic syncing. I'm keeping a couple of GB of non-essential data with them since December, so far no problems.
Long time opera user here: not everything - no userchrome.css, passwords and open tabs don't sync using opera link.
