And that's why I laughed when he was shot (and not because I like seeing people shot). Most every character on this show has become one note. Rogelio and Petra (and maybe Luisa) are the exceptions. It was so telegraphed and Michael was written as so much the Prince Charming that it prevented any meaningful emotional

Oh, I just stopped caring about these characters a few episodes back. And Michael getting shot was so very obvious and rote that it was laughable. It struck me as a pretty lazy plot twist.

I'll admit it: I laughed when Michael got shot. #youaretheworstburr

Disclaimer: I haven't watched the past three or four episodes. But your points are exactly why I am in no rush to catch up. Jane, for me, is insufferable and has seemed to only become more so. It started in the middle of the season 1 with her being super harsh to Rafael for his ill-considered proposal and popping off

Love this - congrats, Alex! Dance is transformative at any age. I started wth the trinity (tap, jazz and ballet) at age 3, but transitioned to just tap and jazz (damn puberty) and dance all through high school and college. I taught a little after undergrad but stopped when life and work became too busy. But I recently

I barely care about who Jane ends up with at this point (or Jane for that matter - this show started to lose me middle way through last season). But your last line forced me to comment. I lol'ed!

I also thought it worked that Jane is a hot-head. It makes her less the St. Jane she has been heretofore. If only they can keep on this trend of growth for her …

Agree! I've done grad school twice (although in "trades" - MBA and JD), and while my professors were great, they were no where near as supportive. And if she is supposed to be at the U of Miami, I can tell you for sure that is fiction. Or maybe the liberal arts are kinder and gentler.

I still find Jane tedious/immature/triflin' (for all the reasons I have listed in the past), but in the spirit of the season, I will say that I am was very happy for her fleeting moment of self-awareness and empathy in the therapist's office. Yay for character growth, albeit small. My next Christmas wish is for Petra

It had me shaking my head too - Jane's behavior has often been anger worthy. I would say she got the good-good but Rafael hasn't had the good-good so …

Up vote for the impressive tantrum! And I agree with your points.

Jaime Camil continues to be the highlight of this show. Rogelio is the one thing that keeps me tuning in. And I do New Handbag Thursday.

I suppose I would have less issue with Jane's flaws if she had an honest critic in her life. As Some_fan said, there are very few people who aren't drinking the Jane Kool-Aid. Everyone loves her so very much, and that seems to have given her very little self-awareness.

Very well said! I would expect some growth in her characterization at this point. But I fear that the show is leaning so hard into the telenovela shenanigans that are missing important bits on character development.

I am increasingly realizing I am not the demographic for this show. I simply don't understand Jane - she is so young.
The only thing Rafael did wrong was have someone else tell the police that Michael let Nadine go - he should have told Jane what he heard and done it himself. It is not unreasonable that he would be

I fully expect it. Right now, the storylines have so many holes, they are practically Swiss cheese. This episode was like a tease to get all of the players in place for the second half. The ad episode next week, then a fall finale with requisite twist, back mid-January for the sprint to the end.

Agree … I didn't love it either. I think it was gimmicky and done to force the plot along so they can have some cliff-hanging fall finale. I had an editor tell me once that if you can't explore topics in some depth in your article, then you probably have too many topics in play. It wasn't the worse ever but I wish

This is the problem with virgins … one really hot, wet-inducing kiss and it's love.

I know! My twins are almost two now but one son was/is super chill and the other son was/is an over-emotional wreck. His brother would just stare at him when he melted down. I am happy to say DanceBaby2 has slowly begun to take after his brother's calmer ways.

I read these recaps/reviews and think I was watching a completely different show. The baptism tradition was indeed lovely, but I felt the rest of the episode was a cluttered mess. The breakneck pacing is a hallmark but this was so jumbled that none of the plots had much room to breathe. And I think the reviewer read
