Nope. Down, fur, and leather feel glorious and I feel not one bit of compunction when I wear them.

But like they said "What about synthetic down? Just going to interrupt you right there — that's a petroleum byproduct, so fake down is killing everything."
98% of shit produced for your consumption is done so inhumanely in some way. At some point on the chain (materials—i.e. animals and manufacture—i.e. human resources/labor & distribution—i.e. environment).
1) When I was little, I asked my mom how down coats were made. She did not know, so she asked a neighbor, a very strange and wonderful White guy living in the middle of Bed Stuy, how they were made. He was from Vermont, and happened to have some animal husbandry books from when he was younger. It was an eye opener.…
Before this article I was actually planning on buying down to line a wool coat I am in the process of making.. I think I'll probably end up sticking with insulatedquilt batting, which does the same job to keep me warm. If I ever did end up with the extra money to spend I might consider that coat.. but being honest I…
Whatever kiljoy! I've had mine three years now and I have two cats, two dogs, and hosted dozen foster dogs, the coat is still excellent!
You are awesome. Geese are just extra terratorial and super protective of their families. I've never had a problem with them either and Canadian geese are especialy delightful.
I'm pretty sure the geese do NOT need to be alive. I do not believe this for a minute. The feather will not change when the goose is dead. Just break the neck and pluck the bird.
Ohh please, I heard that plants have feelings too and they cry when you eat salad.
Guaranteed for life if they fail due to manufacture defects. General wear and tear, getting heavier or thinner, theft, unexpected damage due to gourd knows what aren't covered.
Was made queasy by the "pulling feathers out of live birds" thing but hell — my grandmother kept geese, my mom was terrified of them because they were mean, they got their heads chopped off, their bodies ended up on the dinner table and their feathers inside down comforters. Sorry not sorry.
Think of it as an investment. You never need to buy another coat. They are guaranteed for life. Also, so warm. I don't care that we all look like an invading winter army, we are warm, we are legion, all is good.
Why in the world would the goose need to be alive? "Live-plucked down is considered to be of superior quality because it hasn’t been degraded/altered by the slaughtering process."(from the Salon article, by Marie Myung-Ok Lee.)
What about wool? Merino in particular. Extremely warm, doesn't hurt the sheep.
Normally I feel horrible about things like this, but geese are the worst.
Jesus. At what point do you say fuck it? Is it possible to live a locally sourced, chemically free, environmentally friendly, and cruelty free existence? It's increasingly looking like the answer is no. I just ordered a puffer last week. I'm not returning it. I'm cold.
Do people even call into the stores anymore? My boyfriend & I get pizza about once a weekend. We always use the Domino's app and it makes it SO much easier. It even alerts our favorite driver when we've placed the order so he makes sure he's the one delivering our food. No joke.
How did you find out you were allergic to the dye? I found out during an MRI when I broke out in hives and couldn't breathe. FUN!
Sadly I'm in Wisconsin. And I'm only like 95-99% sure I won't have kids. If I met the right guy, maybe. Plus, since I'm not sexually active outside of a relationship, and haven't been in one of those in *coughcough* years, pregnancy isn't really an actual concern. The damn periods are what get me. And every…
I'm in MN and the Planned Parenthood on Hennepin is where I got the referral and was set up for my tubal. The doc who volunteers with them and does the surgeries was amazing. I wonder if we got the same doc? Or maybe MN is just way way better about taking CF folks seriously than other states? Either way, hooray for us…
