The cool thing about using an external HDD on a WiiU compared to a 360 (I don't know how it works on a PS3) is that you don't need to make it exclusive to the system. You can still have other stuff on the drive and use it on the WiiU when you need to. The Xbox makes it such a pain.

I got an HD-DVD drive and like 15 HD movies for like $50 at a used game store. I haven't had issues with it and would have had to spend much more to get those same movies on Blue Ray.

Doesn't it show the option of using your Mii as a character? That would fix that problem.
