Normally, when a popular car product's latest generation just came out, its next generation is already in development. The time to develop a car product is about the same as the period its gonna last in the market.

You mean buying Chrysler? Starting beside a brand that's already stable in a market could be a lot easier, and they're even sharing parts. Seat could get some help from VW, and Renault from Nissan since they all belong to the same group.
