Here’s an example to illustrate. If peak power is at say 6600rpm. The whole range from 6200-6800rpm is making similar power. It makes sense to use that range.

They exist but they’re all autos.

You want to go past 5100rpm. If that’s peak power, you want to use as much of that area as possible. And shifting higher means the next gear will be revving closer to that golden area as well. Go too far past 5100rpm and the power will drop steeply, but just before and after it is where the best power is.

I have an SW20 MR2 which is all oversteer. Turn into a wet roundabout, the front turns but the rear doesn’t and you’re sliding.
