Totally in agreement about white versus non-white, but men versus women. The baseline pool is pretty staggering (probably 4 or 5 men to 1 woman that gets a degree and actually enters the field) and the self-selecting subset of engineers that want to work in the incredibly specialized and grueling specialization of

Actually same experience with me 20 men and 2 women, only 1 of those women are in software still, the other one shifted to graphic design. 10 guys passed and only 4 of us still work in software too.

To be fair, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of men working in this field and women. There are all sorts of systemic reasons why this is an issue, but it is one reason why dev teams tend to consist of mostly men. I finished my bachelor’s in computer science and, of the 30 or so people graduating with me,

I would not be surprised if what he was trying to get across was ‘please let me know if I am unwittingly following an abuser, so I can stop following them, and it’s OK to do so privately’, but it did not land well.

All I know is that it’s a bunch of extremely shitty reactionary gamers using the tools at their disposal to get someone who they hate fired.

It’s not, but are people in their 30s or 40s going to have to worry about their shitty 14 year old self’s Myspace page coming back to haunt us? A crude/offensive Yearbook signing?  That time they vented on their GeoCities page?

The statute of limitations for most *felonies* is shorter than 14 years. If we can let first-degree rape slide after 12 years, I think it’s only fair to re-examine someone’s views 14 years after they said some bone-headed things. Especially when it’s someone who pretty clearly doesn’t espouse those views anymore

It makes me wonder how many of us would be fired if someone managed to dig up a record of the worst things we’ve said in our lives.  I sympathize cause I’d probably be out of a job, my only saving grace is that I didn’t record it on the internet.

I agree with this, but also... 2007 was 14 years ago. If someone has shown some sort of personal growth, will we hold them accountable for old statements forever? What does “personal growth” even mean when it comes to professional relationships and employment?

I have little to no interest in the spat around Asmongold. All I hope is that nonsense toxicity doesn’t follow a lot of these WoW players over into FFXIV. I love our community, and it’s easily the best one I’ve been in over the 20 years I’ve been gaming online...

That said, it’s also ridiculous to think that one

The symbol dates back centuries and has auspicious connotations”

Always sucks when they do this. It’s so regularly used on the other side of the globe. Wouldn’t it be better to teach people about it than continue to censor it out and perpetuate the ignorance?

Man, I’m on Ninty’s side on this, but this gotta be the most ridiculous “I’m not a fanboy, but...” fanboy post ever.

I just wish I could find my future PS5 with a PS5 chip inside.

The same way that there were a ton of issues with Star Wars actors making light saber sounds with their mouths as they were filming fight scenes. The actors know what it’s “supposed” to sound like, and they get caught up in the moment end up subconsciously imitating it.

I don’t see why they were even attempting to avoid having him sound like Geralt from the games, considering the way they wrote the character is much more akin to game-Geralt than book-Geralt. In the games, he’s often quiet and curt - the “hmmm” you see in the show is very much something that comes from the games. He

Well, it’s Complicated. Capcom’s DRM runs in Denuvo’s DRM VM. So Capcom’s DRM is just extra Denuvo on top of your normally scheduled Denuvo, because we heard you like Denuvo, dawg.

By knowing the voice of the video game character (he was a fan of the Witcher series before taking on Geralt’s role in the show), and accidentally defaulting to it during a scene because you’re a method actor like that.

Probably because he was a fan of the games since Witcher 2 and he was the one who pursued the role of Geralt when he heard Netflix were making it.
