NEUTRAL:
I think we’re all just pissed that it isn’t here in the US... just gotta wait 25 YEARS!!! Okay, so in the meantime, please tell us how people are modifying these little S660's. Is it just “stickers-make-it-faster”? Or is anyone doing anything crazy like a superchargers, or Hayabusa swaps?
Better than taxi’s, as buses these would be great for suburban routes. Suburban buses run less frequently because there aren’t enough passengers to justify the operating costs. By eliminating the driver cost, autonomous buses could run more frequently, and thus perhaps increase suburban bus ridership... better…
Overall, it’s a nice clean design.... But... The lack of dash buttons is upsetting, the massive C pillar blind spot would be annoying, and the interior looks pretty spartan for what will be a ~$40K CUV.
Looks big... like BMW 4 series big. Looking forward to the G50... hopefully a 4-dr in BMW 1 or 2 series size.
+1 for having actual buttons on the dash.
I’ve rented cars (with the no-smoking sticker) that REEEEEEEK of weed. It seems like the renter before loaded the car with as many clowns as could fit and hot boxed all of the oxygen out of it. The THC oil was probably permanently infused to every surface, nook, AND cranny.
Neutral: the future is definitely coming, but will it be accessible to all? Not anytime soon. Cars are more expensive than ever (especially EV and semi-autonomous models), and right to repair regulations threaten to limit our ability to fix what we’ve already bought.
CP; the IS300 is way past it’s prime. It’s light-ish, yes, but making it go fast in 2017 will requires some tuning... maybe even a turbo. In the early 2000's 215hp for a 3,500lb car was “fast”... not so much so in 2017.
Neutral: for most readers - myself included - it’s cost. For others it’s cost vs. value, or range anxiety with the all electrics. The rising average price of a new car over time is alarming and warrants it’s own article. As much as we like to rag on Elio - and it’s deserved - they were trying to make a new car that…
Cash me oussside when it’s 350+ HP, AWD, full tech package, and under $40K
Cactus = Subaru without horrible transmission options... would you like a CVT or an ancient 5-spd manual in a very stripped out base level, paired with a gutless engine...
The sports car has been ruined to drive a track in Germany, in a way no average driver can safely drive, to benchmark numbers that most buyers don’t understand. It’s a sad story really.
