I'm a Millennial and I think this movie idea sounds like a big pile of shit.

Yeah.

They don't own the Doug IP anymore. It's owned by Disney and they are sitting on it.

Disney owns the Doug characters, so Nick can't use them.

Trademarks die if they're not maintained/renewed.

To be fair, that "other guy" was Daws Butler, a very talented voice actor in his own right (and one heavily connected with Hanna-Barbera anyway - Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, later Elroy Jetson, all him)

I'd been wanting it to survive entirely because it is the largest animation employer in America. I have mixed feelings on them as a creative force (I enjoyed the first two Shreks, the second HTTYD, and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, though perhaps the latter is almost entirely due to my affection for its source material and

It's kind of a shame that whenever they try anything interesting (e.g. The Emperor's New Groove, Lilo & Stitch) it always coincides with "low" periods for the Disney organization as a whole…

Another thing: Columbia didn't actually own Mr. Magoo or Gerald McBoing-Boing, UPA's most famous characters, so Columbia had nothing to gain from the merchandising or anything. Disney owns Mickey Mouse lock, stock and barrel, Warner Bros. owns Bugs Bunny lock, stock and barrel.

Serious answer: Fleischer Studios does. Kind of bizarre that they still exist; I thought they had been absorbed into Paramount years and years ago.

Funny, DreamWorks Animation actually owns Tennessee Tuxedo and Chumley now…this movie seems to be pretty much the whole reason they bought the rightsholder, Classic Media (who also held the Rocky & Bullwinkle properties). So don't rule it out! :P
