@SkipErnst: Three years is of course only what is needed for raw hardware parity, but we'd still need the brain software, and it may well take decades more before we have enough hardware to run that software.

@junior ghoul: I personally see that scenario as unlikely. For one, machines do not compete with humans for resources, other than perhaps energy (and there's lots of that around, if you know where to look).

@CVDon: You make good points, but if you've actually read Kurzweil's books, then most of these criticisms are discussed (to varying levels of satisfaction).

@silkworm: If an astronaut missed his/her footing, he/she would drift slowly away in whatever random direction he/she last pushed his/herself in - not necessarily downwards.

Actually, the Germans found statistical evidence of a link between smoking and lung cancer back in 1929, and it was banned in some countries for health (and moral) reasons as early as the 16th century.

@CaptainJack: The only reason that jailbreaking can (and should) void the warranty is that it can screw up the software settings and cause support headaches for Apple.

Namarrgon and his ISP, two minor players in Internet service and content, are nearing an agreement that could allow the ISP to speed some online content to Namarrgon more quickly if he is willing to pay for the privilege.

@MayorBloomberg: Windows tablets have been around for many years, but only ever succeeded in niche markets.

@technologic: Good thing Android tells you exactly how much battery it uses.

Yeah... I could probably charge an electric car faster by plugging my laptop's USB port into the cigarette lighter.

[sings]We do the weird stuff..

Saw this article on RSS, went to click on the first Nagasaki Archive link but saw it was just a Giz tag, which I find misleading, non-intuitive and (in this case) pointless.

@Shini: R.O.A.C.H.: Indeed, it's technically very easy to add that capability to a game with Kinect, and I can't understand why they haven't been demoing it everywhere.

@Terrorvision: Problem is, the tech used in the 3DS (parallax barrier) suffers from restricted viewing positions, which get worse when you try to scale it up to larger screens. Forget multiple viewers.

@akumaserge: No, it's not true at all, not in the Stereoscopic 3D sense. That requires either glasses, a special screen, or both. Or at minimum you have to go crosseyed.

@Vrank92: Was it a blind test?

@schunniky: or to users with phones from nearly any vendor not named "Google" or "HTC".

@pixelpushing: Not sure what you're getting at. It took 5 weeks from Froyo's announcement to (official) release for the Nexus One - is that really so long?
